Description of the observing site
Location of the observing site: general description
Backyard - yard blasted into the side of a hill (Phoenix, AZ)
Location of the observing site: longitude (deg:min:sec:EW)112:00:00:W
Location of the observing site: latitude (deg:min:sec:NS)33:00:00:N
Location of the observing site: elevation (meters)488

Describe in detail the meteorological conditions at your observing site
(temperature, humidity, wind, rain, clouds, etc...):-42F, no wind,
clear to partly cloudy, 20% humidity

Describe in detail your observing site (vegetation, buildings, fences,
and -especially- any metal objects in your vicinity, etc...):
In backyard (sunken) in between 2-storey house & 15ft concrete high back
topped with 3 ft iron fence. I was standing next to my DV Camcorder that was
on a 5ft aluminum latter.

Describe in detail your outlook and clothing during observation
#11-01# (especially important is your haircut, glasses and metal objects):
Short haircut; no glasses; with cotton

Specify all electrical equipment at the observing site
#12-01# and in its vicinity:
DV camcorder & a am/fm radio that was powered on about 30-40ft away

Additional remarks about the observing site:
My pool's artificial waterfall was on so subsequently, there is background
noise on the recording

Details about the sound from the meteor
Specify the date and time of your sound observation: month
11

Specify the date and time of your sound observation: day
18

Specify the date and time of your sound observation: year
2001

Specify the date and time of your sound observation: local time(hh:mm:ss.ss)
02:00:00.00

How would you describe the sound you heard?
I've heard sonic booms & this was very similar (boom/popping) but preceeded
by a strange short hissing or bass-like fizzle.

How long did the sound last (seconds)?
1.5-2.5

Which direction did the sound come from
(the meteor, the ground, some object, air, all directions)?
behind me (hissing; same direction as flash); all sides (boom)
How many observers from your vicinity heard a sound from that meteor,
and how many observers did not hear it?
observers heard sound: 1

observers did not hear sound:

Did you see the meteor that could be connected with the sound?
1=yes, simultaneously with the sound
2=yes, a moment before the sound
3=yes, a moment after the sound
4=I can not decide which meteor was connected to the sound
0=no
4
If YES, what was the correlation with the light maximum?
0=I can not decide
1=the sound appeared SIMULTANEOUSLY with the light maximum
2=the sound appeared BEFORE the light maximum
3=the sound appeared AFTER the light maximum
3
Did you notice any other unusual phenomena which might be related to
the meteor (electric or magnetic effects, strange odors, unusual
animal behavior, strange air glow, etc...)?
I think I noticed a flash behind me before the noise.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Details about the meteor
(if you have seen or detected the meteor)
Meteor shower (or sporadic): Leonids
#22-01# Meteor magnitude:

Additional remarks
#30-01# Additional remarks related to this event:
I was filming the shower for a friend & business associate you may have heard
of Steve Kates (Dr. Sky). A few hours into the filming, I saw a group of
meteors (1 with dissipating trail) followed a short time later by a strange
noise. I did get this noise digitally recorded on my DV Camcorder.
Furthermore, at a different time however, Steve had a similar experience
while doing a live worldwide radio broadcast in which he commented on it very
briefly live on the show. However, no good audio is available from that event.
I have not yet tried to digitally isolate the noise from the background noise
I heard from the waterfall. This background noise seems to have drowned out
the hissing noise but definately not the boom. (wav file attached)
Do you agree to use your name as a public reference to the data that
#30-02# you are submitting? (0=NO 1=YES):1
